Downpour & flooding cause at least six dead & missing

Torrential rain, huge water flows from the upstream rivers and water release of the Ho Ho and Huong Son Hydropower Plant caused interrupted traffic and serious flooding in the districts of Huong Khe and Huong Son.

In order to ensure safety for life, more than 1,500 students in the area were allowed absence from 350 schools. 

Yesterday afternoon, the Ho Ho Hydropower Plant opened three sluice gates to discharge water with a volume of 1,219 cubic meters per second.

Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ha Tinh province Dang Ngoc Son checked water release from the hydropower plant and asked the director board to closely collaborate with the local authority in eyeing rainfall and water volume to timely release floodwater.

 On the same day, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Gia Hanh commune of Can Loc district Phan Van Son said that torrential rain made 30 meters landslide in the Co Chau dam, causing serious flooding in communes of Gia Hanh, Khanh Loc, Trung Loc etc etc…

Earlier, the localities took households near the dangerous areas to safe places.

Long- lasting downpour experienced in the central provinces of Nghe An, Thanh Hoa and Quang Tri, triggered flooding and killed at least six people and reported missing.

Currently, the local authorities and functional forces have made their effort to seek the missing victims.
