Downpours and flooding kill at least two people in central region

At least two people were killed, one injured and another missing in long- lasting downpours and flashflood which lashed the central provinces, said the National Steering Committee for Natural Disasters Prevention and Control.

The initial statistics showed that the high rainfall inundated 4,643 houses and completely destroyed total 9,074 hectares of rice crop and 487 hectares of fishing farming. Heavy rains  swallowed 58,845 meters length of road surface and landslide.

At this time, the local functional forces removed around 323 houses in lowland areas. 

The National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center warned that medium- heavy downpours are expected to continue hitting the central provinces from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai with its average peak rainfall of 70-150 mm. 

Powerful operation of chilly air is forecast to trigger medium- heavy downpours in the central provinces from December 11-13.
