Hot season in Hanoi capital will be longer in next years due to impacts of climate change, Dr. Nguyen Duc Ngu from the Centre of Science and Technology of Hydrometeorology and the Environment said on November 10.

A seminar entitled “Coping with climate change – Hanoi capital’s issues” was held in Hanoi by the Vietnam Union of Science & Technology Associations and the Construction University.

According to scientists, the capital is not influenced by sea level rise but its weather will be influenced by climate change and climate related problems in coming time.

The climate change will cause higher temperatures and the winter season will be shorter.

At the seminar, Dr. Truong Quang Hoc from Hanoi – National University said the capital need to implement measures to cope with climate change as well as preserve cultural heritages.

In the end of 2008, downpours caused losses of around VND3,000 billion (US$150 million) in the capital.
