Three people were reported to be killed by devastating flashflood and landslides in the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau from the night of September 3 to September 4.
All the victims were in Phong Tho district.
In response to the situation, the provincial authorities have timely deployed forces to overcome disaster aftermaths.
The authorities of Phong Tho district provided each victim family with 4.5 million VND, while the provincial Red Cross, 2 million VND.
According to Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Trong Quang, the province has directed the Committees of Storm and Flood Prevention of all districts to warn locals of the risk of disasters, while continuously and promptly updating information to minimise consequences.
As heavy rains continue to fall in many localities, the local authorities have also outlined options to evacuate residents out of dangerous areas, he added.
