Northern region suffers hail phenomenon on large scale

According to the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center, hails occurred in the Northern mountainous provinces of Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Son La, Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan on the large scale within recent days.

The hail form has caused serious damages to vegetable and flower crops in the localities.
The big raindrops sweeping though Mu Cang Chai (Yen Bai), districts of Sa Pa, Bat Xat and Lao Cai city, Son La and Thai Nguyen were measured at sizes similar to guava or apple.

Unseasonable heavy downpours also occurred in the whole Northern region on February 16- 18.

The hail appearance was due to a low pressure trough being compressed by a cold spell from the northward in combination with upper west wind convergence and high air humidity.
