The National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center reported that current long- lasting hot spell and operation of hot and dry wind from Laos triggered a scorching temperature.

The heatwave yesterday spread from the western part of the Northern region to Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Da Nang and Khanh Hoa.

The hot spell was caused by a low- hot pressure zone from the westward connecting with the southwest wind and a strong foehn wind.

As forecast, the whole country will continue a high-intensity heatwave with an average temperature of 34- 37 degrees Celsius, even up to 38 degrees Celsius in the Northern mountainous and mid- Central regions until 27th  or 28th of April.

Upper west wind convergence above 5,000 meters is able to trigger thunderstorms on the large scale in the Northern region.

Although rains have fallen down some places, a hot and dry weather are warned in the nationwide provinces and cities causing heat related illnesses and a high risk of forest fires.

In recent days, forest fires constantly occurred in some places as Son La, Dien, Bien, Lai Chau, Ba Ria- Vung Tau.

In order to actively prevent risk of forest fire, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong asked the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Public Security to set up fire fighting forces and equipment in the necessary, and investigate reasons and people involved in the fires.
According to the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center, the long-lasting heatwave in combination with the low humidity could cause high risks of explosions and fires in residential areas.

As forecast, the hot spell is expected to last until the end of April or the beginning of the next month.
