Phu Yen’s houses swept away by big waves, flood tide

Thousands of people were evacuated yesterday to avoid flood tide and landslide in Central coastal city of Tuy Hoa, Phu Yen Province.

Flood water accompanied with waves reached up to 3- 4 meters, swepting through ten houses in the area in the early morning.

The Management Board of irrigation and disaster prevention in Phu Yen built Ro hamlet’s dike system with the length of 690 meters in August, 2013. But, the dike system was swept by big waves since early this year.

On the same day, due to the influence of flood tide; over 76 short dikes, 140 houses and 700 hectares of vegetable crops on an island of Mekong Delta coastal province of  Soc Trang  were destroyed completely.

Currently, the authorities and functional forces help residents to repair their houses and rebuild collapsed dike system.
