One person died and four were injured in a heavy downpour, which swept through northern mountainous provinces of Cao Bang and Ha Giang yesterday.

In recent days, the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center has constantly issued a warning of heavy rainfall and flashflood in the Northern and North- Central mountainous regions. 

In particular, the highest rainfall in some places of Lai Chau, Dien Bien and Son La provinces yesterday reached at 100- 140 mm. 

According to the Standing Office of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, 14 houses and cultivate rice and vegetables on an area of 155 hectares in Cao Bang were damaged while Ha Giang province reported serious damages for 34 houses, 27 hectares of rice and vegetable crops, 142 poultry and 8,760 meter cubic lands of traffic road.

From May 31 to June 2, a heavy downpour is predicted to hit the Northern and North- Central regions.

A risk of flashflood and landslide are warned in river banks and low-lying areas of Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Yen Bai and Ha Giang provinces.
