Storm Prapiroon Hits Tonkin Gulf

The Central Hydrometeorology Center announced on August 2 that typhoon Prapiroon directly affects the coastal areas along Quang Ninh and Thanh Hoa provinces.

The center of the typhoon was at 18.8 degree North latitude; 114.8 East longitude and located 420km east of the China's Hainan Island at 4:00 PM on August 2.

The maximum wind speed at the center of the typhoon was about 117km/h at force 10 or 11. The pull was over force 11.

It is predicted that the typhoon will be heading in the west-northwest direction within the coming 24 hours; it will become stronger.

Due to the hurricane’s influence, there will be cyclone at force 9 to 10, even 11 in the center; with its pull being over force 11 .

The sea will be violently rough. The typhoon will continue to head in the west-northwest direction at 10 km an hour and hit the northeast of Tonkin Gulf, perhaps directly influencing the coastal areas along the northern provinces of Quang Ninh and Thanh Hoa.

There will be strong wind at force 6 or 7 in the north of Tonkin Gulf.
