A thick blanket of fog enveloped the Mekong Delta Provinces on February 11. Until 8am it was the mist that impeded the road traffic on the national road 1A and the Trung Luong highway in the Tien Giang, Long An, Ben Tre, Vinh Long and Soc Trang provinces.

In addition, the national air carrier Vietnam Airlines VN295 from Hanoi was unable to land in Can Tho city at expected schedule time in the morning. It landed at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City and could only return for landing in Can Tho at 10pm in the evening.

Meteorologists in Can Tho specified that the temperature difference between day and night was the reason for the intense fog.  The fog has also affected the winter-spring crop as it could trigger the rice blast disease.
