Two consecutive earthquakes hit Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant

Two consecutive earthquakes accompanied with strong blasts occurred in the area of the Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant in Bac Tra My District, Quang Nam province on June 30, caused shaking violently houses and buildings on June 30.

The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center of the Institute of Geophysics said that the first earthquake measured 2.6 on the Richter scale with its epicenter located at 7km deep underground. The earthquake was located at 15,355 degrees north latitude and 108,132 degree east longitude in the Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant at 1:18 am on June 30.

After one minute, the second earthquake hit at 15,357 degrees north latitude and 108,130 degree east longitude with its epicenter at 6.5 kilometers. The earthquake measured 1.7 on the Richter scale.

Two earthquakes named 4th and 5th earthquakes have occurred consecutively since begining of June, 2014.

Earlier, a heavy rain experienced at the Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant in Bac Tra My District on June 29.
