Torrential rain caused serious landslide, flashflood and traffic difficulty through several roads in the northern mountainous provinces in the past days.
Particularly, the bad weather killed six persons and nine others were missing in Yen Bai province; It also reported 12 dead, five missing in flash floods in Son La province.
Additionally, the natural disaster killed seven persons in Dien Bien province, destroyed houses and hectares of rice crops.
The Fatherland Front Committee of Son La province and Muong La district received VND 6.5 billion, 2.4 tons of rice, 967 instant noodles, 104 cloth bags and other gifts from nationwide organizations and individuals.
Mu Cang Chai district also received VND 2,364 billion, more than 5.2 tons of rice and 2,633 noodle boxes.
The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention said that Red Cross Society of Vietnam sent two working delegations to assist local people overcome terrible consequences after the flashflood, and offered over VND 500 million to the affected- localities.
The National Fatherland Front Committee of Vietnam also supported VND 600 million for victims in Yen Bai and Son La provinces.
At moment, the local authorities have sent people to safer places.
Earlier, a working delegation led by Natural Resources and Environment Minister Tran Hong Ha arrived in Yen Bai to assist search and rescue activities and handed over VND 600 million for the locality.
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Linh Ngoc yesterday visited and offered VND 500 million to Son La province and Muong La district.
Deputy Chairman of National Assembly Phung Quoc Hien met with people in Mu Cang Chai to direct search and rescue measures before he sends report to Party, State and National Assembly on the damages.
According to Chairman of the People’s Committee of Yen Bai Do Duc Huy, the province needs the support of VND 410 billion to overcome flood consequence.
The latest weather news from the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center showed that downpour and flashflood are predicted to end in the northern region today. Currently, floodwater level in upstream the Mekong River rapidly increases. The highest water level in Tan Chau and Chau Doc station are measured at 3.22 meters and 2.52 meters respectively.
