In the conference, Mr. Tran Thanh Truong, Deputy Director of the Quang Ngai Department of Science and Technology stated that innovative startup activities are still quite new.

Certain achievements of the province until now are the active establishment of a portal for innovative startup to provide sufficient information for those in need in a timely manner. The Science and Technology Department held five training sessions of ‘Starting up a Business’, three of ‘Business Administration’ to upgrade knowledge and skills for more than 1,000 people in the province.

Normally, an innovative startup ecosystem should begin with students in schools and universities, resulting from processes of scientific research and innovative learning.

Mr. Vo Duy Quan, Deputy Director of the Center for Student Support and Business Relationship under Pham Van Dong University, universities can promote startup activities via public policies to change students’ mind from merely seeking jobs to truly create new values. Therefore, startup contests where coaches and consultants play a vital role in supporting candidates are the key to achieve this purpose.

Mr. Quan added that there is now a trend to form a business incubator or startup support center in many universities, each of which may take up the space from 200 to 2,000 square meters and 10 standing personnel, along with hired professionals and voluntary students.

"Startup origins from the choice of each person whether they want to depend on a large organization or to stand up by themselves with all they have. That choice may lead them to obtain more knowledge from classes for startup activities”, said Mr. Pham Duy Hieu, Vice President of the Startup Vietnam Foundation (SVF).

According to Mr. Hieu, SVF will support Quang Ngai Province in organizing programs to promote the startup spirit in the community and to deliver guidance on business models so that interested young people are able to adjust these models to their needs.

In this event, the Quang Ngai People’s Committee signed a cooperation contract with SVF and officially launched the contest ‘Innovative Startup 2019’.
