VND5,200 Billion For Public Telecom Services

A public telecom service program up to 2010 has been approved by Prime Minister Phan Van Khai.

Funding for the program is estimated at VND5,200 billion. Accordingly the services will be provided for poor communes and those where telephone density is lower than 2.5 phones per 100 people. 

The services consist of general telecom services and compulsory telecom services, including standard telephones, internet services, and emergency telephone services, primarily for healthcare but also serving, security, fire fighting, search and rescue and natural disaster relief.

Enterprises providing telecommunication services will be supported in building, improving and expanding telecom and internet network.

At the same time, the government will also assist those maintaining the public telecom services nationwide.
