Vietnamese athletes have won 19 medals, including six golds and five silvers.

The men’s taekwondo team of Luong Minh Dat and Nguyen Trong Cuong won two more gold medals.

Dat defeated Avenido Marlon of the Philippines in the 80 kilogram final after overcoming Malaysia’s Darrel Josie and Myanmar’s Zar Ni Htun in earlier bouts.

Cuong knocked down So Naro of Cambodia in the final of the 87 kg division to win his third SEA Games gold.

In the women’s section, Ha Thi Nguyen lost to Che Chew Chan of Malaysia in the 73 kg final and Nguyen Thi Duong lost to Rivoro of the Philippines in the 67 kg final. Dinh Quang Toan managed to win just a bronze in the above 87 kg division.

The Vietnamese taekwondo team reached their target of four gold medals at this year’s Sea Games with the two additional gold medals.

Vietnam won two gold medals in karate through Nguyen Hoang Ngan in the individual kata and the women’s team for whom Nguyen Hoang Ngan, Nguyen Thanh Hang, and Do Thi Thu Ha overcame Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia to successfully defend their SEA Games title for a third time in a row.

The men won a sole bronze in karate, this one in the team event.

In billiards and snooker, Do Hoang Quan and Luong Chi Dung easily defeated Nutiwat Kanjanasri and Surathep Phoochalam of Thailand in the semifinals of the men’s 9-ball doubles.

They will play Ricky Yang and M.Zulfikri of Indonesia in the final December 12.

Dang Dinh Tien will play the first match with Praprut Chaithanasakun of Thailand in the men’s one-cushion carom singles on December 11.

Ngo Thi Nga won a silver medal in the women’s 48 kg weightlifting event.

The Vietnamese athletes are expected to bring home 70 gold medals with 394 athletes at the SEA Games to compete in 24 of 25 events.

Vietnam came third with a total of 64 gold medals at the 24th SEA Games in Thailand.
