Vietnamese athletes December 11 won gold medals in swimming, petanque, karatedo, taekwondo, cycling, shooting and springboard events.

At the Laos National Sports Complex, Nguyen Huu Viet won a gold medal for his excellent performance in the men’s 100m breaststroke.

With a time of 1 minute, 01 seconds 60, he broke the previous record of 1 minute, 02 seconds 96, which was held for 10 years by Indra Gunawan from Indonesia.

In the petanque event, Nguyen Thi Hien defeated a player from Cambodia and brought home gold at the petanque women’s singles event.

Cambodia won its first gold medal at the petanque men’s singles event.

Vietnam’s karatedo team won two more gold medals with artist Nguyen Ngoc Thanh winning in the men’s kumite 76 kg division and Bui Thi Trieu dominating in the women’s 61 kg division.

The Karatedo team has won four gold medals in the SEA Games so far.

As predicted, Nguyen Thi Hoai Thu easily defeated her Indonesian rival Nurul Fadlilah in the final at the taekwondo women’s 57 kg division event. It is the fifth gold medal won by Vietnam’s taekwondo team in the SEA Games.

In the women’s cross country event, Vietnam cyclist Nguyen Thanh Dam won a gold medal when she finished four laps with a total length of 28.4 kilometers in 1:35’15”, followed by Hataichanok Tappakun from Thailand in 1:38’57,” and Masziyaton Radzi from Malaysia in 1:40’28”.

Hoang Thanh Tra took a gold medal in the women’s 3-meter springboard event.

Hoang Xuan Vinh also took the first gold medal in the 10m men’s air pistol event.

Vietnam’s women’s team won silver in the 10m event thanks to Dang Le Ngoc Mai, Pham Thi Ha and Bui Thuy Hanh, while Thailand won the gold.

Vietnam has now bagged a total of 14 gold medals, 10 silvers and 10 bronzes at the 25th SEA Games.
