The information was released at a working session on March 14 between Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien and leaders of the Vietnam Sports Administration and the drafting committee for preparation and organisation of the 31st SEA Games and 11th Para Games.

The number of official sports will be adjusted and divided into three groups. One will be athletics and aquatics, another for gymnastics, rowing, football, shooting, weightlifting and martial arts and the third for 11 regional and new sports such as dancing, chess, muay, vovinam and e-sports.

The SEA Games is the region’s biggest sport festival held once every two years. The 31st tournament will be held in Hanoi and the surrounding provinces of Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc and Hoa Binh in 2021.

The 30th Games with a record of 56 sports will be in the Philippines later this year.

Meanwhile, the 11th Para Games is planned to take place in late December 2021, with about 1,300 athletes with disabilities competing in 12-15 sports.
