Chess Tournament Open Begins in Vung Tau

The first Dragon Capital Vietnam Chess Tournament Open kicked off in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

The event is scheduled to take place from August 26 to September 2 at P & T Hotel in Vung Tau. There will be nine rounds. The first, fourth, seventh and ninth round takes place in nine hours, the last round will take 16 hours.

The event is organized by Ba Ria Vung Tau Province under the auspices of Vietnam Chess Federation. The province expects to attract 40 players from the Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Georgia, Australia, India and Viet Nam. The purse is US$20,000

The tournament is the sixth and last elimination round under the Grand Prix system in the Asian-Pacific region. The event will pick the most talented chess players in the region to compete in world tournaments.
