City honors sport talents

The Ho Chi Minh City Culture and Sport Department yesterday held a solemn ceremony to honor sport talents who have had outstanding contributions for the city in particular and Vietnam sport industry in general.

Accordingly, four athletes including Le Tu Chinh (track and field), Mai Hoang My Trang (table tennis), Tran Van Vu (Futsal) and Tran Duy Khoi (swimming) were awarded the title of “Talent athletes”.

Van Vu and Vietnamese futsal team got an impression result in the World Cup as he helped Thai Son Nam club win the National Cup 2016. 

Tu Chinh brought home a gold medal at the Asian Junior Athletics Championships while Mai Hoang My Trang became the champion of the Southeast Asian table tennis tournament.

Young swimmer Duy Khoi held the city team to rank the first position of the 2016 National Swimming Championship.

With outstanding contributions for the Vietnam’s sport industry last year, coach of the HCMC women's football team Doan Thi Kim Chi and cycling coach Do Thanh Dat desired to the title of “Talent coach”.

In the category of the talent disabled athlete, a champion of Paralympic Le Va Cong and swimmer Vo Thanh Tung also received the meaning title.

Coach of weightlifting Nguyen Hong Phuc and trainer of swimming Dong Quoc Cuong were honored as the talent disable coaches.

Vice director of the Ho Chi Minh City Culture and Sport Department Nguyen Hung said that the organizers hoped that the awards will encourage coaches as well as athletes of the city to continue getting more achievements in next time.
