FIFA World Cup trophy in city during world tour

The FIFA World Cup trophy arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on Jan. 18 and is staying for three days in football-crazy Vietnam as part of a world tour co-organized by FIFA partner Coca-Cola. 

Coca-Cola Vietnam held a press briefing at the Caravelle Hotel Monday to publicize the event, designed to inspire fans ahead of the 2010 World Cup this summer in South Africa.

The beverage manufacturer is organizing various activities for Vietnamese fans.
 
The trophy is to go on show at Military Zone 7 Stadium near Tan Son Nhat Airport on Jan. 20. Coca-Cola projected that more than 7,000 fans would come to the stadium to see or touch the trophy.

The trophy is traveling across 86 countries before coming to South Africa for the World Cup. After Vietnam, the cup will arrive in Thailand’s Bangkok.

The 18-carat gold trophy is 36.8 cm tall and weighs 6.175 kilos. It was firstly awarded in 1974 to West Germany.
