The 2007 National Golf Championship began this morning at the Dalat Palace Golf Club in the central highlands.
Sixty golfers from around the country are competing on day one of the third official national golf tournament, but only a score or so will make the cut on day two.
It was just last year that the four-day tournament was recognized by the National Sports Committee and the National Olympic Committee.
The 18-hole venue with a par of 72 is the oldest golf course in Viet Nam and has been owned by US-based Danao International Holding Ltd. since the early 1990s. It is surrounded by rolling hills of pine trees and overlooks placid Xuan Huong Lake in the heart of Da Lat.
Besides Danao International, the tournament’s sponsors include Pham and Partners, the Sofitel Dalat Palace Hotel and Vietnam Airlines.
Last year’s champion was Nguyen Van Thong from Ho Chi Minh City, who finished the 72-hole tournament with a score of 292, including a disappointing 75 on the final day.
