Viet Nam ranked third at the freshly-ended 24th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 24) in Thailand with 64 gold medals, 58 silvers and 82 bronzes.

The Vietnamese athletes performed well in karate, track and fields, shooting, wushu, gymnasium and wrestling.
They fulfilled the target of being amongst the top three at the biggest regional sports event, but failed to obtain 65 gold medals.
The host Thailand led the medal tally with 183 golds, 123 silvers and 103 bronzes and followed by Malaysia with 68 golds, 52 silvers and 96 bronzes.
