Lai Son island in the southern province of Kien Giang is set to be connected to the national grid by the end of this month while another island in the locality, the Hon Nghe, will be connected one month later.
Vietnam’s largest power company Vietnam Electricity (EVN) was expected to mobilize VND600 trillion (US$27.51 billion) from local and international sources to meet capital demand for the national power grid development in 2016-2020, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade yesterday.
The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and the World Bank (WB) signed off on a loan for 500 million USD in Hanoi on November 12 to help the energy sector improve the efficiency of the national grid transmission.
Turbine group 3 of the Son La Hydroelectric Power Plant is expected to officially supply electricity to the national grid on August 25, five days ahead of schedule, engineers at the plant said on Aug 15th.
The World Bank signed a concessional credit agreement with the State Bank of Vietnam Tuesday to provide US$202 million to increase the supply of electricity to the national grid from renewable energy sources on a commercially, environmentally and socially sustainable basis.
