The Mekong delta region is home to 130,000 hectare of coconut, accounting for 78 percent of the whole country. Over 1.9million farmers in the region earn income from coconut, yet very a few of them can make rich from the tree.
The Northern Food Company has just bought salt from farmers in response to the Prime Minister’s guideline of purchasing salt for farmers while the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in the Mekong delta province of Ben Tre said that around 44,000 tons of salt is in stock.
The Ho Chi Minh City National University (VNU HCMC) in collaboration with the People’s Committee of the Mekong delta province of Ben Tre yesterday launched the training and education center under the HCMC National University locating in Ben Tre province.
Ben Tre Province, the country's main coconut growing area, has decided to offer assistance to coconut growers whose livelihoods have been affected by the difficulty they face in selling their products.
