Decrease in number of international tourists to Vietnam

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism estimates that around 614,000 international tourists arrived in the country in April, a year-on-year decline of 2.4 percent; while in the first four months of the year 2.4 million visitors arrived in Vietnam, a decline of 5.3 percent against the same period last year.

This time is off-season for the country’s tourism industry. The present global economic slump has badly affected tourism. However, tourists from new markets are flying to Vietnam, especially from Russia.

In the first four months of the year, around 11,000 Russian holidaymakers come to Vietnam, an increase of 5.1 percent against the same period last year; followed by Thai visitors with a year-on-year increase of 32.5 percent, Indonesia with 26.4 percent, and New Zealand with 21 percent.

Ho Chi Minh City welcomed 2,915,000 international visitors in April, up by 6 percent compared to the same period last year. Total 1.34 million international holidaymakers arrived in the city in the first four months, a rise of 7.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
