Lam Dong calls for opening more domestic, int’ air routes to Da Lat

A discussion on opening more local and international air routes to Lien Khuong Airport in the highland province of Lam Dong was held on October 28.

Lien Khuong Airport, 30km away from Da Lat City, currently receives several daily flights operated by Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air and Jetstar Pacific, linking Da Lat and Hanoi, HCM City, Hai Phong, Vinh, Hue and Da Nang.

The two-floor terminal, which measures 12,400 square meters, enable the airport to receive 2 million passengers per year and aircrafts, Boeing 737, Airbus A320, A321.

The airport welcomed 929,000 arrivals in the first nine months, presenting a year-on-year increase of 50.8 percent. Its rate of growth came in second place after Chu Lai Airport, said Deputy Director of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Administration, Vo Huy Cuong.

According to a plan, Lien Khuong will be expanded to become an international airport  to serve 2.5 million passengers per year by 2025.

The provincial authorities and representatives of  the Vietnam Civil Aviation Administration, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) together with local and international travel companies asked to open new services connecting Da Lat and Singapore, Thailand’s Bangkok, Japan’s Tokyo, Cambodia’s Phnom Penh, Phu Quoc, Quy Nhon, Pleiku, Phu Yen and Thanh Hoa.

The low-cost Vietnamese airline VietJet Air will launch international routes between Da Lat and Singapore, Bangkok in the middle of 2017. The new routes will be operational with four flights a week.
