Around 200,000 visitors filled tourist sites including longan gardens, man-made sea, Hung Vuong Square and the house of the richest man in the old time in Bac Lieu Province in the first days of the lunar new year. Tourism revenue is these days was more than VND40 billion ($1,723,968).
In Dong Thap province at the heart of the Mekong Delta, activities were organized by local administrators and enterprises to attract over 200,000 visitors bringing around VND12 billion in the special holiday. Meanwhile in An Giang province to the west, hundreds of thousands of visitors converged Ba Chua Xu Temple in Sam Mountain and Cam Mountain National Park.
It can say that tourism in Mekong delta changed better thanks to related agencies’ efforts and huge investment of enterprises and locals.
Local administrations have paid heed to promotion programs and improved its guide personnel as well as cooperated with tourism sector in Ho Chi Minh City so as to connect tours from the city to the Mekong delta.
However, tourism sector in the Mekong delta has to remedy its weaknesses including poor infrastructure, simple tourist products, low service quality and untrained guides.
Dong Thap planned to welcome 3.5 million visitors earning around VND1 trillion by 2020, said Deputy Head of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Ngo Quang Tuyen. Similarly, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee in An Giang Province Nguyen Thanh Binh said the province is striving to turn tourism industry into one of key economic sectors and planning to receive 10.1 million visitors by 2020.
According to Mekong delta Tourism Association, provinces should pour much investment into tourism, design more products and diversify alliance as well as connect with big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to design tours. The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism noted that Mekong delta provinces should invest more in river tours, ecotourism, heritage tourism, sea tourism, agrotourism and Community based tourism.
