More Lights and Transport Options Christmas & New Year’s Shoppers

Tran Hung Viet, deputy general director Saigontourist Holding Company, said that from 28th December, the lighting system used to decorate four main boulevards, Nguyen Hue, Le Loi, Dong Khoi and Le Duan, will be fully operational to the end of the 2008 New Year’s Eve. It’s a part of the city’s festive season plans being implemented by Saigontourist.

The HCMC People's Committee approved a proposal of the Municipal Cultural Center to hold a Lion Dancing Gala to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2008, to be held over 29-30 December and continue on the 5th, 6th, 12th, 13th and 19th of January at Le Van Tam Park, Hoang Van Thu Park, District 5’s Cultural Centre and Reunification Palace.

According to the HCMC Public Transport Management and Administration Centre, more buses will be operating on busy routes on Christmas day and New Year’s Eve, especially routes to recreation sites, like Suoi Tien, Dam Sen, Saigon Zoo, and coach stations, like Eastern and Western.

Rang Dong and Thien Phu Coach Travel confirmed they would increase the number of trips to tourist spots like Vung Tau and Buon Me Thuot.

HCMC Ferry and Bridge Project Management Deputy Director Nguyen Duc Chinh said Cat Lai Wharf will have 30 additional trips a day and Thu Thiem Wharf will increase its trips by 25 for a total of 260 trips a day.

All will operate 24 hours a day to meet the expectedly high demand on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
