Peace Boat Halves Time in Da Nang dock

Japanese vistors of the Peace Boat are welcomed by central youths.

The Peace Boat carrying 875 tourists, most of whom are Japanese youngsters and students, dropped anchor at Da Nang port on Thursday.

The boat has docked in the city three times this year, marking its 55th arrival in a row to the country.

The travellers were led to visit the Cham Museum, Hoi An ancient town, Non Nuoc Stone Village and the My Son remains. Many activities such as dancing and singing were also held with the participation of local and Japanese youths. 

On Friday morning, around 180 Japanese students from the boat will join hand with local youths to rebuild 18 collapsed houses for local victims of Typhoon Xangsane.

On this occasion, the Peace Boat will hand over about US$15,000 collected by overseas Vietnamese studying in Japan to the fund for the victims.

Previously, the Costa Allegra, one of the ten high-class cruise ships owned by the biggest shipping company in Italia and Europe Costa Crociere S.p.A, had also arrived in Tien Sa port on Sunday with 450 visitors from Italy, France and Germany.
