At a recent meeting with the city authorities, the general director of the Vietnam Expressway Investment and Development Company gave a cost estimate of VND9.76 trillion for building the 53.4-kilometer road.
Tran Xuan Sanh said his company was looking to foreign banks to finance the 2007-2010 stage of the expressway’s construction.
The road will start at the intersection of East West Avenue and Luong Dinh Cua Street in District 2, pass through District 9, and cross the Dong Nai River by the Long Thanh Bridge.
From there it will go through Long Thanh, Nhon Trach and Thong Nhat districts in Dong Nai Province and end at National Highway 1 near the Dau Giay T-junction.
It will also connect to the international airport-to-be in Long Thanh.
According to its designers, the 120-kph expressway should be enough to handle the increasing traffic along the corridor formed by HCMC, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau at least for the next 15 years.
