Mekong Aviation Joint –Stock Co. received a license on Wednesday to become the third private airline in Viet Nam.
The company plans to start flights from Ha Noi to other local destinations like Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, and Can Tho in 2010.
It will use small aircraft like Bombardier, Embraer, and ATR72 with seating capacities of around 100.
The company has a registered capital of VND200 billion (US$12 million) and will be based in Ha Noi.
Vietnam has three carriers in which the state holds stakes -- Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific Airlines, and VASCO.
Two private airlines, Vietjet Air and Indochina Airlines (formerly Speed Up), have also been licensed but are yet to begin operations.
