Overseas national currency exchange hits US$9 billion

World Bank estimated the amount of overseas national currency exchange sent to Vietnam hit a record of US$9 billion this year, an increase of $1 billion over the previous year.

As the year ends, the amount of overseas national currency exchange transferred to Vietnam from other countries through banking systems becomes greater day by day.

Trinh Hoai Nam, deputy director of Dong A Money Transfer, said that the amount of overseas national currency exchange transferred by his company reached $1.6 billion by December 29, up more than $300 million over the same period last year.

The amount of overseas national currency exchange transferred through VietinBank this year also topped more than $1.3 billion, rose by more than 15 percent year on year; through Eximbank reached more than $600 million, up 64 percent year on year.

Although global economy faltered, the amount of overseas national currency exchange sent by overseas Vietnamese in the US, Canada, and Australia, and migrant workers in Malaysia, Taiwan, and Japan grew steadily.
