With the influx of Chinese vegetables causing safety fears among consumers in Ha Noi, vegetable sellers have begun to claim that their products are from Da Lat.

Food hygiene and safety agencies in Ha Noi and the Ministry of Health carried out a joint check last weekend and found that the vegetables sold in the capital originated from China and other places but supermarkets, retailers, and merchants said they were from Da Lat.
At Hom market, traders said their vegetables were from the central hill city but no one had any papers to prove it. Even their distributors did not have documents showing their origin.
The inspectors found many varieties of mushrooms packed carefully and with just Chinese markings.
Traders said their cherry tomatoes were from Da Lat but again the packaging was full of Chinese characters.
Nguyen Cong Khan, head of the Food Hygiene and Safety Department, said Chinese vegetables are being imported over the land borders making it hard to ensure their quality and safety.
The Health Ministry and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development have taken some samples for testing, he said.
With the massive floods that inundated the capital three weeks ago causing a shortage, tons of Chinese vegetables are being imported into Ha Noi over the border at Lang Son and Lao Cai provinces.
A market management official said hundreds of trucks brought them every night.
