Viet Nam’s consumer price index in this April rose by 0.2% on March, 3% over December 2005 and 7.3% over April 2005, the General Statistics Office has announced.

The index of almost listed groups of goods increased by 0.1% to 0.4%. Household devices and home appliances topped the list with an increase of 0.4%.
Prices of foods and footwear upped by 0.2%. A rise of 1% was seen in prices of drinks, cigarettes and pharmaceuticals, transport fares and postal services.
Meanwhile, prices of meat, vegetables, beers and alcohols decreased or did not rise. Gas price went down by 9.5% due to decreases in the world market.
Among the listed cities and provinces, the consumer index of the central city of Da Nang set the highest growth with 0.7%, followed by Ho Chi Minh City at 0.5%.
The General Statistics Office also reported an increase of 4.8% in the domestic gold price over the last month and 16.9% over December 2005. The average increase was 4.2% this month. The reason was that the world market’s gold price has soared.
The value of the US dollar against the Vietnamese dong upped by 0.1% over last month and also over December 2005.
