Consumer Price Index Increases in June

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 0.4 percent higher from the previous month and increased 4 percent during the first six months of 2006, says the General Department of Statistics.

The CPI for housing and building materials was top with 1 percent increase. Household appliances and pharmaceuticals and health care follow with the index of 0.7 and 0.5 percent, respectively.

The transportation and post telecommunications increased slightly 0.1 percent. Meanwhile, the telecommunication services declined 2.8 percent. Other goods and services also reduced 0.3 percent. All the cultural, sports and entertainment services remained unchanged in prices.

The CPI in Viet Nam’s central city of Da Nang and province of Binh Dinh were at the highest level of 0.7 percent. Meanwhile, the capital city of Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City and southern province of Binh Duong got the increasing index of 0.5 percent. However, the CPI of the northern province of Thai Nguyen decreased 0.4 percent.
