Green Enterprise Awards Announced

11 winners of the Green Enterprise Adwards

The first Green Enterprise Awards, organized by the Sai Gon Giai Phong daily and the Ho Chi Minh City Natural Resources and Environment Department, awarded prizes to 11 businesses at yesterday awards ceremony at the city’s Opera House.

Launched two months ago, the program aimed to encourage industrial companies operating in the southern economic hub to show more care for the environment.

In his opening speech at the award ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Nguyen Trung Tin said that the participation of many enterprises in the program was a positive sign for the city and its mission to protect the environment. The program increased awareness and knowledge about environmental issues for HCMC's dwellers in general and the business community in particular.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dua (R), Standing Deputy Secretary of the city’s Party Committee, gives certificate to the winners.

Mr. Vo Hong Son, Deputy Editor-in-chief of the Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper, commented that even with such a short time to prepare for the Awards program, the newspaper had received approximately 600 opinions and letters from its readers in only two weeks, all of which contributed to the awards. He added that these figures show the importance of the issue of environmental protection to the public and the attention that the award itself had received.

The Natural Resources and Environment Minister and co-organizer of the Green Enterprise Awards, Mr. Mai Ai Truc addressed the ceremony. He emphasized that by receiving certificates for environmentally-friendly technologies and production processes, the award winners would in turn receive a "laissez-passer" to integrate into the global economy. Each winner would therefore increase its competitiveness capacity in the international economic integration process.
