Expansion begins for southern highway

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Dong Nai on August 2 for widening of Highway 51 that connects the southern province with neighboring Ba Ria – Vung Tau province.

The expansion work under the Build – Operate – Transfer mode by the Vietnam Urban and Industrial Zone Development Investment Corporation and Song Da Corporation at a cost of VND3.2 trillion (US$183 million) will see the four-lane highway doubled in width to 32.9 meters.

It will allow vehicles to travel at a speed of 80km.
 
Along the 73km highway, 21 bridges will be built or broadened, with 12 overpasses built in residential areas. The work is expected to be finished in 2012.
