Da Lat Joint Stock Company has signed an agreement with France’s Scae de la Cote allowing the Vietnamese company to cultivate a French variety of grape and produce the resultant wine in Da Lat city next year.
A representative of Scae de la Cote said the company will supply a plant strain appropriate for the region’s climate and soil conditions sometime this year.
With this grape strain, vines will bear fruit within a year of being planted. By the second year, three to five kilograms of fruit may be harvested from each plant. Harvesting can take place for 12 to 15 years.
The plants will produce sweet and flavorful grapes, very distinct from those being grown in the two central provinces of Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.
Lam Dong provincial authorities have announced that the province will allocate land to the Da Lat Co. so that the company can begin cultivation.
While waiting for the current crop of grapes to ripen, the Da Lat Co. plans to import materials to make 300-400 liters of wine for the coming Chinese New Year holiday.
The Company has just finished the construction of a winery with an annual output capacity of two million liters.
