The 2010 Vietnam Aquatic Products Festival will kick off in Can Tho City from April 24-27 with 500 stalls and the participation of over 200 enterprises from across the nation, the Can Tho People’s Committee announced at a press conference in Hanoi on March 31.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Chairman of the Can Tho People’s Committee To Minh Gioi said the festival is a key social and economic event for Mekong Delta provinces in particular and the country in general.
It will also provide opportunities for domestic businesses to seek partnerships and build brand names for Vietnamese seafood products, said Chairman Gioi.
This is the first festival to honor the Vietnamese aquatic products sector and it is hoped the event will raise the prestige of local seafood products in the world market. It also aims to create conditions for enterprises in the sector to expand trade with foreign partners.
According to Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Luong Le Phuong, Vietnam’s aquatic product sector still faces many challenges in terms of increasing competition in the wake of international economic integration.
It is therefore necessary, said Deputy Minister Phuong, to organize special seminars aimed at finding new opportunities and partners for the Vietnamese aquatic product sector.
During the festival, there will also be nearly 20 economic and cultural activities offered including seminars and trade promotion programs.
