Aquatic products processing factories in the Mekong Delta now are in great demand of catfish and shrimp.

As many as ten factories in An Giang Province are in need of more than 500 tons of catfish per day. The unmet demand causes the decrease in production recently.

Farmers in the Mekong Delta return to raising catfish as prices go up. As a result, price of breeding fish doubles from VND120 to VND250 per one but supply cannot meet demand.

The price of premium quality catfish rose from VND12,500 to VND13,000 per kilo on February 2.

Besides, price of shrimp increased to VND150,000 per kilo due to the shortage. The fact that it is out of season and a lot was harvested before “Tet” holidays are the main reasons for serious shortage which could last to the end of February.
