The country’s leading retail group, Saigon Co-op, submitted Friday a suggestion to stabilize dairy prices to Ho chi Minh City People’s Committee.
In a meeting with diary produce suppliers in the city Bui Hanh Thu, deputy general director of the group, said that the suggestion was aimed to protect consumers.
The group asked the committee to classify dairy produce as one of the ten essential products that needs to have stable prices.
The meeting was held three days after dairy produce suppliers suddenly increased prices of milk powder and other such products. This is despite a hike in tariffs on fresh milk not extending to these products.
The meeting received support from suppliers. Vinamilk and Dumex promised not to increase dairy prices till then end of May. Dutch Lady pledged not to increase prices till the end of the year.
