Vietnam Gas and Oil Group (PVN) completed the installation of a 320 ton second steam drum in their Vung Ang 1 thermal power plant in Ky Anh District in the central province of Ha Tinh on January 22 assisted by the Vietnam Machinery Erection Corporation (Lilama).

The Vung Ang 1 thermal power plant comprises of two machine units with a total capacity of 1,200MW.
According to the plan, the machine units 1 and 2 will begin generating electricity anytime from the third quarter of 2012 and the first quarter of the following year.
In related news, after a trial period, the second turbine at the Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant in the central province of Quang Nam was successfully made operation able on January 21, 33 days ahead of schedule.
It is expected to generate electricity before the Lunar New Year to meet the power demand during Tet. During this period, water levels in the Song Tranh 2 reservoir are sufficient for both its turbines to operate at their highest capacity of 190MW.
The first biogas plant in Vietnam has just been inaugurated at the Nuoc Trong cassava processing plant in the northern province of Tay Ninh.
The French group, Rhodia invested a total of US$700,000 in the plant which has a production capacity of nearly two million cubic meters per year. Built with the latest technology, the plant will be able to treat over 90 percent waste containing COD and BOD from the cassava processing plant.
