Shipyard builds Vietnam’s first car-carrying vessel

Ha Long Shipbuilding Company launched the first roll-on/roll-off cargo vessel that can transport cars built in Vietnam at a ceremony held July 21 in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

The ship, Victory Leader, is 185.6m long and 32.26m wide, can carry 4,900 cars, and reach a top speed of over 20 nautical miles per hour.

The shipyard, a subsidiary of the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, built the vessel for Israeli company, Ray Car Carrier Ltd.

It is the first of four such ships it is set to build by 2011.
