Stocks decline fourth straight day

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index extended its losing run to fourth straight day on July 25 as sell-side lost patience after most blue-chip stocks devalued.

The gauge of 303 companies and six mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange retreated 0.65 percent, or 2.72 points, to close at 412.91 points.

Among the index members, 71 were gainers, 177 losers, while 61 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse fell by 3 percent in volume, but rose by 7 percent in value over the previous trading session as more than 43.52 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND707.03 billion.

Tan Tao Investment Industrial Joint Stock Company (ITA) was given the title of most active share in volume with 2.63 million shares changing hands.

Lu Gia Mechanical Electric Joint Stock Company (LGC) took second place with 1.73 million shares.

Vietnam Electricity Construction Joint Stock Corporation (VNE) came in third with 1.71 million shares traded.

Saigon Machinery Spare Parts Joint Stock Company (SMA) slumped 25 percent to close at VND5,700.

Bac Giang Exploitable Mineral Joint Stock Company (BGM), Dong Hai Joint Stock Company of Ben Tre (DHC), and Duong Hieu Trading and Mining Joint Stock Company (DHM) all subtracted 5 percent to close at VND5,700, VND7,600, and VND19,000 respectively.

Everpia Vietnam Joint Stock Company (EVE) erased 4.87 percent to close at VND21,500.

Binh Chanh Construction Investment Shareholding Company (BCI) soared 4.9 percent to close at VND21,400.

Lu Gia Mechanical Electric Joint Stock Company (LGC) strengthened 4.68 percent to close at VND17,900.

Long Hau Joint Stock Company (LHG) and Lilama 18 Joint Stock Company (LM8) advanced 4.67 percent to close at VND15,700, and VND11,200 respectively.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – shrank 2.97 points, or 0.6 percent, to end at 488.37. Among its 30 members, 7 stocks rallied, 15 weakened, and 8 remained unmoved.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north cut 0.23 percent, or 0.16 points, to close at 69.68 points with 96 winners, 110 losers, and 70 stocks treading water. Around 37.41 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND346.94 billion.

HNX 30 Index - the price index of top 30 stocks calculated based on free float adjusted market capitalization – shed 0.17 percent, or 0.23 points, to finish at 132.08 points.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares contracted 0.11 percent, or 0.04 points, to close at 37.08 points. A total of 509,706 shares changed hands at VND2.31 billion.
