Inspectors from the Directorate General for Health and Consumer Affairs (SANCO) of the European Commission have affirmed that Viet Nam’s seafood products will continue to be allowed into the European Union market.
|Viet Nam is ranked as the 7th largest seafood exporter in the world|
The National Fisheries Quality Assurance and Veterinary Directorate (NAFIQAVED) said the affirmation had been made after SANCO made a trip to Viet Nam last month to inspect the safety and sanitation of Viet Nam’s ocean products exported to the EU.
This was the EU’s second inspection tour to Viet Nam since 2003.
The inspection team’s preliminary report said Viet Nam has made progress especially with regard to monitoring antibiotic residues in sea products.
Although stern warnings were issued with regard to some shipments, SANCO was happy with measures taken to deal with the problems.
According to the Ministry of Fisheries, 209 Vietnamese seafood businesses are qualified to export seafood to the EU market. Viet Nam is ranked as the 7th largest seafood exporter in the world.
