The first barrel of oil extracted from the Su Tu Vang (Golden Lion) oil field was ceremonially received by Cuu Long Joint Operation Company in Ha Noi yesterday.

It came from the field’s 6P oil well.

Cuu Long JOC, an arm of the State-owned PetroVietnam, expects to extract 65,000 barrels per day.

It expects this to increase to 100,000 bpd when five wells begin to yield oil before year-end.

Su Tu Vang, the country’s fourth-largest oil field, lies off Binh Thuan Province in Vietnam’s continental shelf.
