Vietnam's leading telecommunication company Vinaphone announced the launch of its mobile service for customers on some international air lines by which subscribers will be able to make calls and send text messages from inside airplanes.
Subscribers of Vinaphone need not register for the service as it will automatically be activated on international roaming.
However, customers will be required to switch off phones during take-off and landing as per airline rules.
For the time being, this new service is being provided only for postpaid subscribers.
Customers will be charged $0.82 per message sent but will be free for receiving; $4.3 for making outgoing calls in any direction, including Vietnam, and VND99,000 per minute, excluding taxes, for receiving a call.
Vinaphone is already offering this service on a number of international flights including Emirates, Malaysian Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand, British Airways, Etihad Airways (UAE), Libyan Arab Airlines, Egypt Air, Oman Air, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines, and TAM (Brazil).
