British beatboxer to perform in Vietnam

The UK’s leading beatboxer Kila Kella will give a one-off performance at the Friendship Cultural Palace in Hanoi July 31.

Vietnam is one of the stops on his tour in the region, which started July 23 and includes China, South Korea, Thailand and Hong Kong.

He will be side-by-side UK drummer Andy Knowles from Franz Ferdinand and DJ Skeletrik.

They will be on stage with Vietnamese beatboxer Minh Kien, rappers Windy and Kim and the hip-hop group Big Toe.

Born in Billingshurst, West Sussex in 1979, Kila Kella has been a fan of hip-hop since he was a young boy.

Although steeped in hip-hop tradition, Kela’s aim is to broaden beatboxing, a form of vocal percussion which primarily involves the art of producing drum beats, rhythm and musical sounds using one's mouth, lips, tongue, voice, and move into new areas of music.

His latest album, ‘Elocution,’ was released in late 2005, and has been championed as the best crossover album to date.

Tickets are available at Cuba Café Lounge, 46 Le Duan; Ete Bar, 95 Giang Van Minh; and Pepperoni’s, 29 Ly Quoc Su and Boo Skate Shop, 84 Hang Dieu in Hanoi.

Tickets cost VND60,000 to VND80,000.
