The delegation of the European Commission has announced a month-long cultural celebration in May to mark Europe Days in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Hue.
At a press conference on May 4 it said art and other performances would be held at many venues around Vietnam to showcase a multicolored European.
These will include art exhibitions, Europe-Vietnam friendly children’s football matches, a knowledge contest for young Vietnamese, movies, and painting contest.
A European Film Festival will be organized in Ha Noi and HCMC with 14 European Union members participating.
A roundtable on relations between Vietnam and the EU and a European food festival will also be held in the two cities.
Fifty nine years ago, on 9 May 1950, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman made a speech, the so-called “Schuman Declaration”, calling upon France, Germany, and other European countries to pool together their coal and steel production as “the first concrete basis of a European Federation essential to the safeguarding of peace.”
This laid the foundation for gathering the European nations into what today is the European Union. The 9th of May has since become Europe Day.
