‘Doing good things during Tet’ gives 2,000 TVs to poor

‘Doing good things during Tet,’ a charity program for poor farmers accomplished its mission Saturday to collect donations to bring cheer to 2,000 poor families this Tet holiday.

The show received donations from various kind-hearted individuals and companies, including VND2.6 billion ($145,000) in cash donated during the show, VND67 million ($3,750) via a hotline and 300 21-inch TVs.

Two auctions were held. On for the most beautiful yellow apricot tree nominated at the 2009 Spring Flower Festival, to be held at Tao Dan Park from January 20 to 31. Dinh Quoc Co. bid VND250 million ($14,000). A Motorola Aura cellphone inlaid with gems designed by Cuu Long Jewelry Co. was bought by Quoc Cuong Gia Lai Co with a bid of VND300 million ($16,800).

A separate SIM card with the ‘lucky’ number 0934888888, provided by MobiFone, found an owner, as Duy Loi Co. bid VND250 million.

Music was performed by Dam Vinh Hung, Ho Ngoc Ha, Hong Ngoc, Thanh Thao, Thanh Thuy and AC&M band. Miss Universe Vietnam 2008, Nguyen Thuy Lam, added spice and emotion for audiences not only at HTV  but viewers as well. The show was broadcast live on channels HTV9 and other local TV channels, Ha Noi, Quang Ninh, Hue, Can Tho and Hau Giang

The annual charity show is organized by Ho Chi Minh City Television and Cat Tien Sa Advertising Company, with support from the HCM City Farmers Association.

The organizers will use the money to buy 2,000 TV sets for poor farmers.
